Grossarl – the “European Village” in the Province of Salzburg

The village of Grossarl, with its 3,800 inhabitants, is located at an altitude of 920 metres. It forms the centre of Grossarltal and is therefore the starting point for many beautiful alpine hikes to the serviced mountain huts, which have also earned the valley the nickname “Valley of the Alpine Pastures”.

In winter, the village is well known for its ski connection to the neighbouring Gastein Valley, one of the most modern and best-developed ski areas in the Ski amadé region. Lively après-ski, cosy cafés, numerous hotels and sports shops all contribute to the vibrant atmosphere.

The highest elevation is the summit of the Frauenkogel, which reaches an impressive 2,424 metres above sea level.

Grossarl stretches between “Stegenwacht” and the municipality of Hüttschlag. The village covers an area of 129.25 km² and is divided into the districts of Mitterling, Niederland, Ellmau, Markt and Unterberg.

Hikers, mountain bikers, nature lovers and families will find Grossarltal to be the ideal destination for a summer holiday in Austria.

The village offers guests a wide range of outdoor activities. Grossarl, in the Valley of the Alpine Pastures, is also located along the route of the Salzburger Almenweg.

Mountain cyclists and bikers can enjoy more than 160 km of signposted and marked MTB trails, while leisure cyclists can even use the support of an e-bike to reach the mountain huts.

The sports and leisure centre in Grossarl welcomes guests with an adventure swimming pool, tennis courts and many other varied attractions for young and old alike: a beach volleyball court, mini golf, football pitch, skate park, street soccer and the “Rucki Zucki’s Gaudi-Alm” playground.

In addition, the village and the Grossarl region offer many more sporting summer activities in the fresh mountain air, such as Nordic walking, tennis and climbing.
