In principle, a free version is available for all apps. For an extended range of functions and freedom from advertising in the apps, there are our bergfex PRO subscriptions.

bergfex: Hiking & Tracking App

The app does not have direct access to files on the iPhone. You can transfer GPS files to the iPhone either as File attachment in e-mails or via AirDrop transfer and open. A dialogue box will appear asking which app you want to use to open the file; select our Hiking & Tracking app.

Our iPhone app supports the Apple Watch and also takes over the heart rate. There is currently no separate application for Android watches.

Both the iOS and Android apps can be connected to Garmin Connect or Polar Flow. This enables the automatic transfer of recordings from Garmin and Polar to the bergfex app.

A manual pause function can be activated in both versions (iOS / Android) in the settings. However, pauses are also recognised automatically by the app and the "time in motion" is used for statistics. Manual pausing is therefore not necessary in most cases.

Activities can be viewed on the web in the My bergfex-area can be edited. It is also possible to create and publish a complete tour with a description, tour criteria and important information from an activity (usually just a GPS track, possibly pictures and a title).

In the app, an activity can be converted into a tour via the options menu (3 white dots in a blue circle).

A tour requires the assignment to the respective Country and federal state. If this information is missing, the tour is only displayed on the smartphone but not on the PC.

If the smartphone does not record a correct route in standby mode (but does in display mode), this could be an indication that it is active. Energy saving" function which prevents this on many smartphones. Our Hiking & Tracking app must not be among the apps that have activated energy-saving mode. For complete route recording, we recommend excluding our app from the energy-saving settings. The app should then follow the route even when the display is switched off. If you do not know how to deactivate energy-saving mode on your device, please contact our app support directly at app@bergfex.at.

Open the app's planning tool via the second symbol tab from the left and create the tour by setting individual points. The route will be completed automatically. Once you have planned the tour according to your wishes, "drag" the black area further upwards.

The "Navigate" and "Save" options appear:

If you press "Navigate", you can follow the tour immediately; if you press "Save", the planned tour is saved as a template in the profile area under "My tours" and you can navigate the tour at any time. To do this, select the tour under "My tours" and then press "Navigate"

In our bergfex: Hiking & Tracking app, you have the option of "bookmarking" tours. The tours marked in this way can be found under the menu item Bookmarks. Here you also have the option of creating folders and moving tours to them.

Tour planning on the web:

1) Log in to the My bergfex area with your account and click on "My tours".
2) Now click on the small green button "+ New tour" and you will be taken to the creation area.
3) You do not need to upload a GPS file, you can simply skip this. Select the title, country and state of the tour and click on continue.
4) You will now be taken to the map view where you can set the waypoints.
5) Click "Finish" to save your tour and "Continue" to add more information.

The route planning on the PC is not as sophisticated as that in the app and does not have an auto-routing function - i.e. it does not have a function that automatically sets the points along a route you have selected. This means that you have to set each waypoint individually on the PC

The Hiking & Tracking app offers a simpler way of planning tours. You can find instructions on how to do this under "How can I plan a tour within the Hiking & Tracking app?".

If you are aware of incorrect or outdated information on a tour, you can report it to us via the app or on bergfex.at.

Report tour in the app

Open the tour description in the bergfex app. After clicking on the menu (three dots), you can create a Report a problem.

Report tour on the website

Visit the tour details page on bergfex.at. In the right-hand column you will find the option Report tour.

The duration of the tour is determined by a complex calculation method that takes into account a variety of circumstances to provide an accurate estimate. Our forecast combines factors such as the Length the route that Steepnessthe Level of difficultywhich Substrate condition and much more.

It should be noted that other external factors, such as personal fitness or weather conditions, can also have an influence on the actual duration. Our calculations therefore serve as a Guideline and Orientation guide.

Ski resorts and snow reports

The daily snow reports are from the ski resorts directly to bergfex transmitted. Thanks to years of co-operation and free service, we have created a comprehensive snow depth network through our local specialists. Unfortunately, due to technical errors or human error on site, the snow depth information may not always be correct.

You are welcome to contact us at redaktion@bergfex.at and we endeavour to keep the values up to date. In principle, the snow values are Guide values for the current daily slope condition (and not for the terrain). To get the most realistic overall picture of the snow situation on site, it is best to use our webcams (incl. archives) and weather information.

The Valley value refers to the current, average and compressed snow depth on the piste in the valley (at the valley station) or in the lowest area of the skiable pistes. A snow depth of at least 20-30 cm is essential for machine grooming. The Mountain value is the corresponding, daily significant snow depth on the piste in the upper areas of the ski area. This value is determined in different ways: Snow measuring poles, GPS measurements on piste equipment, estimates based on experience. Of course, factors such as wind, solar radiation, orientation, etc. have a location-specific influence.

Fresh snow values (new) are usually specified as non-compressed, fallen snow and are then included in the valley and mountain values as compressed snow (1/5 compared to fallen snow) by the snow groomers. The Term "place" means the current snow depth in the nearest valley resort away from the piste and can be used to get an idea of the winter sports resort.
