From challenging World Cup runs to broad carving pistes
The Zauchensee ski paradise offers numerous slopes for every demand – from fantastic carving slopes and sporty speed pistes to deep snow runs for off-piste fans. Families will find plenty of fun and variety in the Family Park on the Rosskopf, in Zauchi's Kinderland and on the Skimovie race tracks.

Thanks to the altitude of up to 2,200 metres, the best slope and snow conditions are guaranteed until Easter. The perfectly groomed slopes and numerous attractions such as fun slopes, family parks, Skimovie race tracks (parallel slalom and giant slalom) as well as photo points and love hearts at the most beautiful vantage points leave nothing to be desired.

If you want a little more, the seamless connection via Flachauwinkl and the Shuttleberg offers further skiing variety all the way to Snow Space Salzburg. 12 peaks, 5 valleys and 210 kilometres of slopes from Zauchensee to Alpendorf are waiting to be conquered!

Freeride paradise Zauchensee
Zauchensee is a hotspot for off-piste action amongst freeriders. Away from the groomed ski slopes, a soft powder paradise opens up. The so-called ‘East’ of the Gamskogel has become a must for freeriders.

Powder snow fans can look forward to ski routes with boundless panoramic views, untouched deep snow slopes, tree runs, mogul slopes and many off-piste experiences. Guided tours are recommended.

Stop for a bite to eat with regional delicacies
In the Zauchensee ski paradise, rustic huts and cosy mountain lodges along the slopes invite you to take a break from skiing. Meals are freshly prepared every day, with a preference for regional products. At the top of the menu are typical Austrian specialities such as Kaiserschmarrn, goulash, juicy beef steaks, and steaming soups.

From the town to the ski slopes
The Zauchensee ski paradise can be reached via the Tauern motorway A10 or the access road via Altenmarkt. Parking is available directly at the motorway exit in Flachauwinkl. From there, the modern Highliner I gondola lift and the Highliner II 6-seater chairlift take you right into the heart of the ski area in just a few minutes. Additional parking is available in the Weltcuparena Zauchensee area (access via Altenmarkt).

World-class skiing, snowboarding and freeriding fun for the whole family

Zauchensee has been hosting FIS World Cup races for over 40 years. The Gamskogel downhill run is one of the most demanding speed courses in the Ski World Cup. On the extremely steep start slope, the ski athletes accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just a few seconds. The next World Cup races will take place on 10 and 11 January 2026 in Zauchensee.

New Schwarzwandbahn cable car in Zauchensee

The new Schwarzwandbahn cable car will open in Zauchensee in the 2025/26 ski season. It will replace the historic Schwarzwandbahn cable car, which was decommissioned in April 2025 after almost 40 years of service.

New Schwarzwandbahn cable car: capacity increases to 2,300 people per hour

The new Schwarzwandbahn not only has a modern appearance, but also offers numerous improvements for winter sports fans in Zauchensee: more legroom, easier boarding and completely new seating arrangements ensure a first-class feeling of space and greater comfort.

A particular bonus is the increased transport capacity from 1,700 to 2,300 passengers per hour: This means that 35 per cent more passengers per hour can be transported to the Gamskogel than with the old Schwarzwandbahn.

The modern 10-person D-Line gondola lift now also allows pedestrians to comfortably ascend to 2,113 metres and walk to the Weltcup Express, which travels to the start of the World Cup race course on the Gamskogel.

The youngest kids ski for free
Minicard: Minis (children born in 2020 and later) ski for free in Zauchensee (except: Shuttleberg-Flachauwinkl/Kleinarl and the training lifts in Filzmoos). The ski pass requires ID and a photo and is only available at the lift ticket offices on site.
