Cross-country skiing - Sport for the soul
One of the healthiest and oldest sports in the world is inspiring more and more people: Cross-country skiing is more popular than ever. Beautiful landscapes and well-prepared cross-country trails invite you to enjoy a very special winter pleasure. Ramsau is a top destination here: get on board those cross-country ski runs on which the Nordic world elite fought for the world championship title in 1999.
On the cross-country ski trail network of Ramsau am Dachstein, which covers up to 220 km - 70 km of which are sports and skating trails - both top athletes and pleasure cross-country skiers experience "snow wellness" on the tracks of the world champions. The central starting point for Nordic sports is the cross-country stadium in Ramsau Ort with its own test centre. Ramsau am Dachstein with its different altitudes and all levels of difficulty for cross-country skiers leaves nothing to be desired in winter! The fact that there are more than 80 places to stop for refreshments in the surroundings of the 17 cross-country ski run circles rounds off the "Nordic Winter Fitness" in an enjoyable way.
A special highlight for all active, sporty, dynamic guests is the night cross-country ski run in the cross-country stadium in Ramsau Ort, which is illuminated daily from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Everyone learns this with the left hand "
World champion and Styria cross-country skiing coordinator Dr. Alois Stadlober is responsible for the conception of the courses. "Everyone learns this with their left hand! Speak in six hours. With a little skill and willpower, you can teach yourself the right technique right from the start, so that the elixir of life cross-country skiing can take effect. Cross-country skiing is only particularly casual if you do it properly," says Dr. Stadlober.
In addition to the first balance exercises, cross-country skiers in particular practice the correct sequence of movements so that they can then build on this good foundation. And cross-country skiing is always healthy: in total, 600 muscles are trained in cross-country skiing and Nordic walking, considerably more than when jogging. And Stadlober is also convinced of one thing: "Cross-country skiing is young and trendy, makes you healthy, smart and sexy.
*¶¶ Kids, let's go cross-country skiing ¶¶
For children we offer special taster lessons and courses. Details can be found in our current winter programme. The complete cross-country skiing equipment (skis, poles, boots) in children's size both classic and skating can be rented directly on site.
International Training Center
The sports facilities are complemented by a high-altitude cross-country trail on the Dachstein glacier and the showcase indoor training centre with power equipment, cycle ergometers and treadmills of the highest technical standard, a climbing tower and a gymnasium. Performance diagnostics and training control are available to all hobby athletes and guests. Cross-country skiing world champion and running guru Dr. Alois Stadlober has contributed his experience in the implementation of this new offer. Olympic champions and world champions - i.e. top athletes from all over the world - find "the source of their strength" here.
Also the famous World Cup and World Championship track, on which the world elite annually run around the podium places, will be newly presented starting next winter. "The World Cup track will be adapted to the latest requirements and the infrastructure for major events will be optimized", says Philipp Walcher.
The World Cup track will then also be usable from autumn onwards. A tunnel will be created to separate it from the cross-country skiing for tourists, so that cross-country skiing for tourists is not impaired even during major sporting events.
Technically up to date
As in every ski area, snow-making systems have long been standard equipment. In Ramsau am Dachstein, too, we are constantly adapting to the latest state of the art in alpine skiing. Only this year, Ramsau am Dachstein made a major investment to ensure snow reliability. A total of 1 million euros has been invested in the snow guarantee at the foot of the Dachstein. In Ramsau Ost, a new snow pipeline was built over 1.8 kilometres, which provides a snow-covered
Cross-country skiing distance of 4 kilometres guaranteed. For this purpose, an independent power supply was built in order to no longer be dependent on the infrastructure in Ramsau-Ort. Ramsau am Dachstein is a trendsetter in technical development anyway. Again and again, managers and staff from other cross-country skiing areas come to Ramsau to exchange experiences and for training. Modern snowmaking, preparation and signage: Ramsau has a special role model function here.
Cross-country skiing schools are the professional partners for learning the right techniques (parallel, skating, Nordic Cruising ...), with extensive (trial) programs:
