Kapfenstein - the family and child-friendly community

Kapfenstein is located on one of the many extinct volcanic peaks in the heart of Styrian Volcano Country. You will find places with a special effect, power and above all marvellous views of the beautiful region.

Kapfenstein Castle, perched on a basalt cone, can be seen from afar. It has been owned by the Winkler-Hermaden family since the end of the First World War - the hotel and restaurant is one of the most important tourist attractions in the municipality of Kapfenstein.

In addition to the castle with its excellent cuisine and exquisite wines, Kapfenstein is also home to the so-called Geo-Trail. On the approximately two-kilometre-long trail through the volcano, visitors are immersed in a spectacular chapter of the earth's history. The formation of the volcano and its surroundings is explained at eleven stations. Through three special telescopes, visitors can even take a peek into the past.

Both interested visitors and experts praise the "Geo-Info", which is housed in the community centre. It is a museum - honoured with the Austrian Museum Seal of Quality - for the presentation of the geological development of the village and the Styrian volcanic region.
