Going

The imposing peaks and dramatic faces of the Wilder Kaiser loom up before Going in a bizarre but stunning way. Situated around the village is one of the loveliest and most diverse hiking and climbing areas in Austria. Idyllic hiking trails snaking through enchanting countryside guide you along close to the valley as far as St. Johann in Tirol or Ellmau. There are, for example the traditional handicrafts and art markets, where you can observe how a tuft of hair from a chamois is turned into a traditional hat decoration, or how an elaborate figure is tenderly crafted from a wooden log. Of course there are all the customary forms of entertainment and plenty of specialities from granny’s cookbook too. And because a holiday is not quite a holiday without water you can take advantage of the Going bathing lake, which collects its water from the naturally springs on the Wilder Kaiser and is often considered the p rettiest natural bathing lake in all of Tyrol. With the longest open-air water slide in the region, a new children’s playground and a beach volleyball court, it won’t be just the kids’ hearts that beat faster.

In Going, the whole family is well catered for and the children will certainly be excited when they see what is on offer for them. Anyone who fancies getting away on horseback should pay a visit to the Lipizzaner stud farm at he Stanglwirt hotel. Here you can experience for yourself why precisely this breed of horse is considered such a special thoroughbred animal.
