The small idyllic village which sits on a wide and airy high plateau surrounded by impressive mountains, offers relaxation and unrivalled outdoor experiences.
Steinberg is the starting point for many mountain tours. Guffert (2,196 metres), Unnutz (2,077 metres) and Enteralm (1,324 metres) are some of the most popular tours.
Steinberg am Rofan is a mountaineering villages. But what exactly does that mean? The mountaineering villages initiative launched by the Alpine Association brings together villages that are mountaineering pioneers in their regions. For this reason, the mountains and mountaineering have an important place in the cultural self-image of the locals and guests. Here, the awareness of the necessary harmony between nature and man is still alive and people respect natural boundaries.
Tip: Visit the Rhaetian rock inscriptions in the romantic gorge of the Steinberger Ache which have been discovered in 1947. The eight-line inscriptions still pose a mystery to researchers, some believe that the signs point to a holy well.
