Created out of nothing in 1964, following the famous ski resort development concept Plan Neige (Snow Plan), the resort is today considered a prime example of modernist architecture. Emblematic 70s style buildings are intermixed with recent constructions (Savoyardinspired chalets and free-standing residences etc...) to create an unusual and incredibly popular architectural heritage. The ‘Brelin’ residence, a historical liner-inspired block of flats connected to Croisette was honoured with the “20th century heritage” label in 2003. The contemporary bell tower received the first prize for metallic architecture in 2000.

MANDATORY WINTER EQUIPMENT Les Menuires

The town council has just issued a decree concerning the mandatory use of special equipment, namely: 4 winter tires in good condition and/or snow chains. Snow socks and all-season tires are not considered adequate equipment.
This decree is valid throughout the entire opening period of the Belleville Valley resorts (Val Thorens + Les Menuires + Saint-Martin).
Article 4.2: “Depending on weather conditions and the state of the road surface, law enforcement may deny access to the resorts for vehicles equipped with ‘snow socks’ if these are not suitable for heavily snow-covered or icy roads. Vehicles failing to meet these requirements will be denied access to the resorts under the conditions set out in Article 2.”
Non-compliance with the provisions of this decree is subject to penalties and a second-class fine.
