Description of the

At the hikers' car park in the Großthal, continue straight ahead along the wide path by the stream, past a barbecue hut, until you reach a trail spider. Here the trail turns left. After a few 100 m, the trail turns right and winds its way uphill to the Kiesbuckel Nature Friends House.

When you reach the Naturfreundehaus, the path turns left. From the wide roadway, a path goes downhill to the left after a few metres, next to the 1 marked with the Palatinate Hut Tour and the Palatinate Keschde Trail. At a larger junction, the circular trail follows the path half-right through rocky terrain. Here you have a great view of the Rhine plain! Continue straight ahead, later half right, always downhill, through the nature reserve near the village of Albersweiler. In between, you pass another beautiful vantage point with a view towards Trifels. At the next turn, the path leads to the left until, after a few hundred metres, the path leads to the left downhill to the starting point at the hikers' car park.

Other visitors and animals will thank you. For your own safety, observe all road closures, even at weekends. Park only in designated parking areas. Leave space for emergency vehicles and agricultural machinery. Please give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic

Route

At the hikers' car park in the Großthal, continue straight ahead along the wide path by the stream, past a barbecue hut, until you reach a trail spider. Here the trail turns left. After a few hundred metres straight ahead, the path turns right and winds its way uphill to the Kiesbuckel Nature Friends House, where you can stop for refreshments at weekends. Otherwise, it is worthwhile just to enjoy the beautiful view. There is also a playground for children.

When you reach the Naturfreundehaus, the path leads to the left. After a few metres, a path leads downhill to the left, next to the 1 marked with the Pfälzer Hüttentour and the Pfälzer Keschdeweg.

The tour is also suitable for families, especially at weekends, when you can stop at the Naturfreundehaus.

If you want to hike a little further, you can start at the Kiesbuckel Nature Friendship House and take the Palatinate Hut Tour to the Orensfels and the Landauer Hut (open Sat, Sun and public holidays and during the Rhineland-Palatinate holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., except Christmas holidays).

Equipment

For our hiking tours we recommend the following equipment as standard:

Sturdy shoes Clothing suitable for the weather Sun and rain protection Sufficient supplies of food and drinks, as there are not always refreshment stops or shops available or open everywhere. Even though the paths are very well marked throughout, it is always advisable to carry a suitable hiking map for safety reasons, so that you can quickly find your way to a safe area in the event of a thunderstorm or emergency, for example.

Safety instructions

In general:

Especially in autumn, also be aware that leaves lying on the ground can hide bumps, roots, stones or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or rainstorms, trees can still fall over or branches can fall down afterwards. Especially in adverse weather conditions, muddy and slippery passages can occur on natural paths. Not all rocks or precipices are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in places. You have to expect this type of path impairment when you undertake a hike. If you are of the opinion that certain sections of the trail are not passable for you, you should avoid them.

NOTICE:

We endeavour to announce on this platform any closures that occur due to forestry work or hunting parties. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a trail closure or diversion, please follow the instructions for your own safety.
