- Brief description
-
Tällistock is a technially quite easy tour, but the 1400m of ascent do require a certain level of physical fitness. There are amazing views of the Rhone valley during the whole ascent and between Gale and Tällistock Furkapass can be seen to your left.

- Description
-
A few years ago Tällistock was quite easily reached from the top of the lift at the Hungerberg ski area. Since the lift has closed the entire ascent has to be done using leg power alone. It pays to take a few breaks on the climb to turn around and enjoy the view over the Rhone valley. The higher you go the more impressive the view gets. The lookout point at Gale provides an good resting point before continueing on to Tällistock.
- Directions
-
From Oberwald take the old ski piste up towards Hungerberg until you can get on the winter hiking trail to Hungerberg. Follow this hiking trail until you pass the restaurant at Hungerberg. From here keep climbing roughly north-eastwards until you get to the old top station of a pull lift from the ski area (just under the avalanche barriers). Here the terrain briefly goes over 30deg. Follow the contours of the slope up towards point 2199 staying high on the ridge until you get to Gale.
Just before Gale the terrain once again gets steeper (>30deg) and care should be taken at elevated avalanche risk levels. From Gale the route gets flatter. The route stays to the left of the obvious ridge following where the hiking trail goes in summer onto the Tällistock. Follow the Tälligrat up to point 2769 which for skitouring purposes is the summit. (The signpost here actually says Tällistock on it). The true summit is about 100m higher to the south-east, but it is quite difficult to get to. There is a second easier accessible summit (Point 2802) to the north.
The descent follows the same route down as the ascent.

- Equipment
-
Due to wind effects on the snow I would recomend bringing ski crampons with you as well as your regular touring anda avalanche equipment.
- Safety instructions
-
For the most part this tour is under 30 degrees so relatively safe from an avalanche point of view. There are two or three critical sections where care should be taken with elevated avalanche risk levels.
If you decide to go to the true summit of Tällistock you will require some basic alpine climbing skills.
- Tips
-
Due to the south-west exposure the snow conditions on this tour are probably best in deep winter. (January, February)
- Additional information
- Directions
-
From north of the Alps you will need to load your car on the train going through the Furka tunnel from Realp to Oberwald. In Oberwald leave the train station and turn right until the start of the pass road to Furkapass (closed in winter). Here turn right and drive through the town until the road eventually swings around to the left leaving you in a small car park.
