- Description
-
Rifugio Monte Baldo, far from the main road communication routes, is located in the picturesque grassy hollow of Madonna della Neve, a particularly quiet and charming place.
- Directions
-
Right in Valle dei Molini (307 m), trail 652 starts, heading in the direction of “Madonna della Neve, Ponte della Balanza”. Trail 652 almost exclusively follows a nice gravel mule track on the right hand side of the Aviana river. Given the constant gradient, you gain elevation rather quickly. After passing a water fountain and a capital, you reach “Bivio Preafessa” at 700 m asl. Here, you ignore the trail to the right, marked 685 “Cascata Preafessa” and “Ferrata G. Sega”, and you continue straight along trail 652, which continues to follow the Aviana river. The path becomes narrower as it enters a picturesque gorge. At 980 m asl you reach “Ponte della Balanza” [a bridge]. Here, you ignore trail 661 and continue straight along trail number 652, which makes a bend to the right and heads out of the river gorge. Continuing to follow the same trail, you walk along a road and trail which, among little houses and meadows, leads to the mountain hut.
You return along the same route.
VARIATION:You can comfortably reach Rifugio Monte Baldo by car.

Please note that the practicability of the itineraries in a mountain environment is strictly linked to the contingent conditions and is therefore influenced by natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this page may have changed. Before leaving for a tour, make sure the path you will approach is still accessible by contacting the owner of the mountain hut, the alpine guides or the visitor centres of the nature parks, the info offices of the local tourist board.
- Tips
-
For more experienced hikers, we suggest the beautiful “Ferrata Gerardo Sega”, an EEA difficulty level route, which is short but quite challenging and exposed. It climbs the yellow cliff that dominates Val D’Aviana. If you like the idea, don’t hesitate to contact an Alpine Mountain Guide.
- Directions
-
From Avio, which is easy to reach with roads A22 or SS12, you take road SP208, in the direction of Altipiano di Brentonico, San Valentino. You follow this road until, on the left hand side, you see a small parking lot in Valle dei Molini (307 m), well marked with SAT trail signs.
- Parking
-
Free parking in Valle dei Molini (307m); 5 parking spaces.
