- Description
-
Its position on the promontory makes it clearly visible even from afar. Strange that a church was built right up there. In reality, a castle once stood on the hill above the inhabited area: it was built by Mainardo II, Count of Tirolo around 1276 and demolished in 1310. The village of Castello di Fiemme derives its name from that manor. The church of San Giorgio (now dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of Lourdes) is actually the small church on the left of the parish church. Both places of worship also stand out in the evening thanks to lighting that enhances their shapes and position.
- Directions
-
The destination of the walk is visible from the start, near the soccer field of Cavalese. Walk along the sidewalk in the obvious direction and at the intersection take the road to the left slightly downhill leading to a small bridge. After it the road becomes narrower, climbing gently through the meadows. You continue to walk reaching the first houses of the village of Castello di Fiemme. Upon reaching Los Andes hotel, take Via Fiemme on the left, which leads to Via Roma. From here, take the Via Salita alla Parrocchia on the left which, with a short but intense climb, leads to the 2 places of worship. From this natural balcony the view sweeps over several villages of Val di Fiemme and the surrounding mountains.
Return along the same route.
