- Description

From the car park, the route follows the road, which is closed in winter, first through the forest and later on a wide ridge with a fantastic view of the Schobergruppe and the Lienz Dolomites, becoming flatter and flatter, to the Roaner Alm (also known as Raner Alm). After an excellent snack, you return along the same path. First you pull the sledge for 1-2km (depending on snow conditions) before you can toboggan back to the parking lot in one go on a moderate gradient.
Alternatively you can visit the Winklerner Hütte (AV-Hütte). Then turn right approx. 1km before the Roaner Am (summer car park, signpost) and in 15 min to the Winklerner Hütte. This section of the path is usually tracked by a snow cat.
Ski touring and snowshoe hikers head for the Straßboden from the Roaner Alm or the Winklerner Hütte.
- Directions
-
From the parking lot first north on the road which is closed in winter. You will pass a barrier. As a tobogganist, one ignores all signposted variants and always stays on the prepared road. The path first leads through dense forest up the south-eastern slope of the Penzlberg. After a longer section (approx. 2 km), which always leads through the forest in NNO direction, a sharp left turn follows. The road leads southwest for another kilometre, then turns north and you reach the open terrain at the Luggeralm (1631m). Leave the alpine pasture on the left and continue to follow the road which circles the alpine pasture grounds in a wide right curve. Above the Luggeralm the path turns north again and leads straight through the alpine pasture past several alpine huts to the summer car park of the Winklerner Hütte. There, the path first slopes slightly in a northerly direction, crossing the border to the Hohe Tauern National Park and then flattens out to the Roaneralm. The descent follows the ascent path in the opposite direction.
