Description

The outline of the Rhönpaulus greets us at the starting point. As the hero of the adventure trail, he is now our companion and tells us about himself and about the yew trees in the Ibengarten. We continue to Glattbach, where the Rhön robber spent much of his life and was finally executed. He was brought from the prison to the execution site in a specially made cage so that he could not escape. Who dares to climb into the cage on Neuberg? After the field bridge we come to the Ibengarten. Shortly before the edge of the forest, a wonderful vantage point awaits us with a view of the orchid-rich limestone meadows in the Feldatal and the surrounding Rhön Mountains. A dense beech forest follows, which blocks our view of the mountains. Now it's time to watch out: who will see the primeval old yew trees first? They form a green tunnel that leads up the Neuberg. Explorers can complete a robber language course here or take a journey through time through the history of the forest and learn something about the luck of the yew and yew worries. The Rhönpaulushöhle is the last stop on the route. Here you can take a leisurely snack break or go on a discovery tour in the robber's hiding place. Who will find the robber's treasure?

Safety instructions
The tourist routes of the Rhön are mostly used by other active people (hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, riders, cross-country skiers, etc.).

We ask all active nature sports enthusiasts to show consideration for one another. The same applies of course to nature - it is worth protecting. In the Rhön, therefore, nature sports should only be practiced in daylight on designated paths and areas.

Tips

Those who don't have that much stamina can start in Glattbach or at the edge of the forest near the Ibengarten car park. This makes the path a wonderful experience for the whole family - and especially the little ones!

Additional information
If the starting point is moved to Glattbach, the walking time is reduced from 3.5 hours (starting point: Dermbach) to 2.5 hours. From Glattbach the path runs congruently with the Hochrhöner

Arrival

Dermbach can be reached via the A4. To do this, leave the motorway at exit 33 Friedewald and shortly afterwards drive onto the B62 in the direction of Philippsthal and Vacha. In Vacha turn right onto the B84. Shortly afterwards, still in Vacha, you come to a roundabout. Leave this at the exit in the direction of Dermbach. You reach the village of Dermbach via Völkershausen, Oechsen and Oberalba.

Public transportation
With the Dorfbus (line 132) from Wartburgmobil, which runs daily between Dermbach and Kaltennordheim, you are flexible and can call it at least one hour before departure on tel. (0180) 7 97 98 99. NB!: Registration for the weekend must be made by Friday!

Alternatively, you can also use the Wartburgmobil line 133 on weekdays, which connects Dermbach with Kaltensundheim.

From Bad Salzungen you can reach Dermbach with the Wartburgmobil line 130 (on weekdays, Sat, Sun, FT).

Parking
The actual beginning of the adventure trail is in Dermbach, at the car park not far from the bus station directly on the B285. We recommend the following for navigation devices: Bahnhofstraße 30, 36466 Dermbach. (See also: Google Maps). The entrance to the car park is opposite the residential buildings.

Alternatively, you can use the car park in Glattbach at the Feldabrücke (near the bus stop). The address for navigation devices is: Glattbach 14, 36466 Dermbach. (Also see: GoogleMaps)

There is also the option of taking the small hiking car park at the edge of the forest. If you start the hike there, the route length through the Ibengarten to the Rhön-Paulus-Höhle is only approx. 1,000m. This hiking parking lot is located approx. 700m east of Glattbach, coordinates: 50°41'53.6"N 10°08' 13.4"E (See also: GoogleMaps)
