Description: Ranzo is located directly on the lake and can be reached by train. The red and white hike leads steeply uphill via Sant' Abbondio, known for its crusty sourdough bread. A beautiful stream flows through the valley, giving it its mystical charm. After the Monti di Sant’ Abbondio and Alpe Tempelina, the altitude on Monte Covreto is reached. Along the Italian border, the route descends to Sasso Torricello. Into the forest, to the next destination, Alpetto Caviano, where the refuge of the same name is located. A small unattended hut (June - October), equipped with kitchen and WC, which invites you to stay with its cosiness and panorama. The steep descent along the mule track leads to Cento Campi, where you can still marvel an original example of the impressive construction of thatched roofs. Now it's down to the lake to Dirinella, from where the bus departs.

Public transportation: From Locarno train station: Take the S20 in the direction of Castione-Arbedo. Get off at Cadenzzo. Continue with bus 350 in the direction of Dirinella. Get off at Ranzo, Paese. From Cadenazzo, depending on the connection, it is possible to continue with train S30 towards Ranzo-S. Abbondio.

From Dirinella: Take bus 350 in the direction of S. Antonino, Centri Commerciali. In Cadenazzo change to the S20 in the direction of Locarno. Alternatively, take bus 350 to Magadino and continue by boat to Locarno.
