- Description
-
The cable car takes you comfortably to Cardada, Locarno's local mountain, which lies high above Lake Maggiore between the Valle Maggia and the Val Verzasca. The first part leads through the forest, then over scenic terrain up the marked paths towards Cima delle Trosa. The first half of the ascent leads flatly in a wide arc along the west side of the Cimetta. However, the majority of the altitude gain is not made until the second half. But at the summit you are rewarded with an impressive panoramic view. On the way back from the Cima della Trosa along the east side of the Cimetta, several mountain huts tempt you to take a break.
- Directions
-
Not far from the mountain station of the Orselina-Cardada cable car (1340 m) is the valley station of the chairlift from Cardada to Cimetta. At the nearby fork in the trail, keep left. Follow the marked hiking trail that leads flatly along the west side of the Cimetta. Above the houses of Alpe Vegnasca, overcome the steep slope to the Bassa di Cardada saddle (1610 m) in narrow hairpin bends. Continuing to climb steadily, you follow the marked trail to the Cima della Trosa (1869 m). The descent takes you over the Alpe di Bietri (1499 m) to the Bassa di Bietri saddle (1448 m). Here you keep to the right, past the Capanna lo Stallone (1486 m) and the Capanna Cardada (1473 m), which is not far away, you hike along the eastern side of the Cimetta back to Cardada.
