- Description
-
Far away from the busy road, you can really enjoy the surrounding silence and nature. The hike offers fabulous panoramic views and also many alpine pasture residents grazing. However, you need to have some fitness and endurance.
- Directions
-
You start at the Tonnerhütte car park and follow the slightly ascending forest path to the first bend. Immediately from the bend, the footpath branches off to the right and turns towards the right edge of the ski slope. Follow the moderately ascending course of the slope and go past the mountain station of the lift to Hohe Hald. Out of the increasingly sparse tree line, the path now leads us slightly uphill over tree-free terrain towards the Zirbitzkogel, before it turns to the east (half right) and heads towards the Murtalblick at the Lavantseehöhe, 2,250 m.
Follow the ridge to the N (left), the marker 312 to the summit of the Zirbitzkogel. Just before the summit is the Zirbitzkogel refuge, which invites you to stop off. From the Zirbitzkogel refuge, follow the marker 320. You turn right and return to the Lavantseehöhe in a southwesterly direction on the connecting path.
Follow marker 312 south to the Fuchskogel, 2,214 m, and continue on the path, which always slopes slightly towards the south, over the ridge of the Zirbitzkogel to the Stoana hut, approx. 1,750 m. The path now leads easily from the idyllic Stoana hut rising over the “Streitwiesen” to the Judenburg Cross. On the south side of the Zanitzenhöhe, 1,841 m, the path leads to the St. Martiner Hütte.
Follow the forest path in a southwesterly direction until you reach the junction of the footpath to St. Martin am Silberberg. On the Kärnter Grenzweg you walk gently downhill through Hochwald to JH Gnos. On the access road you walk slightly downhill for about 3/4 km until it meets a gravel road in the valley area. Follow the gravel municipal road to GH Wieland or St. Martin am Silberberg.
