- Description
-
The low mountain landscape of the Hirschegg saddle is ideal for snowshoe hikers. Easy to moderately difficult slopes are ideal for starting snowshoeing here. In addition, the risk of avalanches is rather low in this area.
- Directions
-
We start at the Salzstieglhaus parking lot at 1,553 m and follow the markings of the long-distance hiking trail 505. This trail initially runs along a ski slope, but after a short time we branch off to the right into the forest. After a short ascent, it becomes flatter again.
Gradually it starts to climb again and we finally reach the two wind turbines and the reservoir for the Salzstiegl ski area.
We hike around the reservoir and once we have reached the other bank, we start our ascent to the Stubalm, which will demand a lot from us in heavy snow conditions.
We follow the marker poles and reach the highest point of the Speikkogel on the Stubalm. This 1,993m high point is NOT marked with a summit cross but only with a marker pole.
We take the same route back, but then make a short detour via the summit cross, which stands at 1,979m above sea level. We leave the hiking trail at another marker pole and keep left. Now we have the unique opportunity to make tracks in the snow. We continue a little below the wind turbines parallel to a small ditch until we reach a forest road, we keep to the right and after a while we come back to the long-distance hiking trail 505, which takes us straight to the Salzstieglhaus parking lot.

Packing your rucksack properly makes things much easier: pack heavy items first. The water bottle should always be within easy reach in a side pocket. All items that are often needed, such as sunglasses, camera or hiking map, should be on top.
Emergency equipment belongs in every rucksack!
Clothing according to the "onion system" is always recommended!
A good pair of hiking boots is a good companion and should never be missing on the mountain!
Don't forget a blister plaster just in case!
- Safety instructions
