- Description

The diversity of the sun-drenched landscape around Gleisdorf is the theme of this tour. First you head out to the orchards in the hills north-east of the town. However, the landscape quickly changes as you descend into the plains of the Raab valley. Along the Raab, you can then enjoy the relaxed cycling between the "Sterzwälder" and vegetable fields before heading uphill again on the other side of the valley. The Kleeberg with its viewing tower is definitely worth the slight effort. Passing Freiberg Castle, the trail leads back to Gleisdorf.
- Directions
-
The tour is signposted in both directions, clockwise is recommended. The route officially starts at the Wellenbad in Gleisdorf (parking available) - but you can get on anywhere along the route.
On the way out of the town, the first hill climb awaits you - over Gamlingberg, accompanied by orchards, to Gamling. From here, the route tends to go downhill on a ridge with a beautiful view to the Nitscha community centre. Turn sharp left here and ride downhill to Arnwiesenberg. The route branches off to the right and leads more downhill to the lowest point of the tour in Arnwiesen. You will soon see the motorway bridge on your left, which dominates the landscape. Uphill through the forest you finally reach the main road, which you have to follow for 50 m (watch out for traffic!), before it goes downhill again accompanied by meadows and agricultural areas into the Raab valley. At the first opportunity, turn left under the motorway and continue through the village area to Hofstätten an der Raab. The route branches off to the right here and leads along the Raabtalradweg towards Gleisdorf. This section is free of car traffic up to the motorway subway. You have the option of returning to the wave pool via the R11.
However, the sun tour continues to Urscha, and you will eventually reach the Kleeberg, which is relatively steep uphill. Take advantage of this spot for a rest! Along the ridge of the terrain, you get uphill and downhill, but without long ascents, to Hart (turn right) and after about 5 km to a chapel. 300 m after that, turn right downhill (partly through forest) under the motorway onto the main road (Laßnitzthal railway station in the immediate vicinity). Follow the main road via Flöcking to the roundabout at Ludersdorf (Attention: Often heavy traffic at the roundabout!). In Ludersdorf you have the option of taking the R49 to Gleisdorf station and then the R11 to the wave pool.
However, the sun tour branches off to the left in Ludersdorf and leads slightly uphill past Freiberg Castle and the golf course to Winterdorf. Here you turn left, cross the Raab valley again and finally reach the R11, which you follow away from the main road with little traffic via the villages of Wollsdorf and Albersdorf to Gleisdorf. The sun tour finally leads from the main road to the left back to the wave pool.
Use the wave pool to cool off or the Refugium to relax in the sauna.
