Description

Whether you tackle the "Schönegg Tour" from Schönaudorf or Stubenberg, there is always a short section with a steep climb. But the views of the Schönauer Berg vineyards and across the entire Pöllau Valley Nature Park and the Feistritz Valley with Lake Stubenberg are well worth the effort.

Directions
Schönaudorf - whether as the starting point or the end of the tour - is so well situated that you simply have to plan in a visit to a cozy tavern!

The establishments of the Kainer, Muhr and Safner families are located directly on the route. The Kogler, Krobath and Spindler wine taverns can be reached in just a few minutes by bike. Immediately after the turn-off from the R57 (coming from Pöllau or Hartberg), the route climbs quite steeply through Schönaudorf. However, the view of the Schönauer Berg vineyards and the entire Pöllau Valley Nature Park is well worth the effort. Here you also have the opportunity to take a break at Gasthaus Schrank.

The trail continues uphill for a little while before reaching the ridge at the Hofer quarry and the view of ApfelLand with the Stubenbergsee lake.

A leisure paradise - with its 40 hectares of water, Lake Stubenberg is one of the largest and warmest bathing lakes in the country.

Along the ridge, the route then takes you leisurely towards the Stelzer-Lex bed and breakfast. From there, the municipal road leads steeply up to Stubenberg. Before you reach Stubenberg's main square, however, you can stop off at the Hofer Toni wine tavern to round off your cycle tour in comfort.

Fair play rules for cyclists

Plan your tour carefully! Check your bike before you set off! Always ride with the right protective equipment! Always ride with a helmet! Don't forget all your equipment (repair kit, first aid kit, etc.)! Only ride on marked paths! Observe the road traffic regulations! Observe driving bans and keep to opening times! Control your speed! Leave no tracks! Respect other nature users! Show consideration for animals (only ride in daylight & close pasture fences)! Avoid noise and garbage! Use the cycle paths at your own risk! Beware of working machines, wood or potholes on the road, grazing livestock and vehicle traffic (forest roads are working areas and workplaces)!

A few tips on correct and fair behavior: Cycling and mountain biking in the forest (oesterreich.gv.at)

Cyclists should avoid visiting the forest approx. 1.5 hours before sunrise and after sunset, as wild animals are particularly active at this time. Plastic bottles, handkerchiefs, cigarette butts etc. have no place in the forest! Please make sure that you do not leave any garbage in the forest. Camping and making fires is strictly forbidden in the forest!
Tips

We recommend a visit to one of the cozy wine taverns along the bike tour
