Description
It therefore fully deserves the crowning title of "La Classicissima". This raises the question of what makes this route so popular to give it the Classicissima designation? It is the natural routing according to the motto: Up the Radlpass, up to the Kapunerkogel, along the border to St. Pongratzen and back down to Eibiswald. This tour route is quite easy with the striking Kapunerkogel, on the crest of which the national border runs. Super cool mountain bike terrain lies "on the road" and magnificent views into southwest Styria on one side and into the Slovenian Drau Valley on the other side of the border await. And all this within a reasonable time frame, i.e. the bike tour can be done quickly after work or on a short Sunday morning.

The "Kapuner - St. Pongratzen: La Classicissima" loop is the mountain bike tour of your choice if you want to

already know the routes at the Austrian foot of the giant "Kapunerkogel" and want to make a wonderful detour to the Slovenian side of the Remschniggs, want to get to know the Römerweg, one of the original ascents of the Eibiswald mountain bike scene to the Radlpass, enjoy the wonderful view of the Pohorje Mountains from the Radlpass, want to experience what is probably the best-known mountain bike climb of all borderless tours on the Slovenian side with the ascent to Kapunerkogel, want to ride from Kapunerkogel to the junction below St. Pongratzen, one of the most easy-going mountain bike sections in the entire border region, want to be really quiet and remote on the Slovenian side for once, are prepared to let this silence take effect on you and want to combine a short holiday in seclusion with a challenging bike tour, want to be impressed by the 360-degree view from the steeple of St. Pongratzen Church.
Directions

Start from the starting point at the church in Eibiswald in a southerly direction and follow the route via Sterglegg, Stammeregg and the Römerweg to the Radlpass.
From the Radlpass, first descend on the main road in the direction of Radlje and then turn left into the Kapuneranstieg following the sat nav.
From Kapunerkogel to the crossroads south of St. Pongratzen Church, always stay on the Slovenian side. From the crossroads below St. Pongratzen, turn left and take the last gentle climb over to the Wutschnig-Legat inn.
From there it pays to make a detour up to the St. Pongratzen church (very steep - pushing passage). If you are lucky, the church tower is open and you can climb a well-renovated staircase to the viewing platform at the church tower.
From St. Pongratzen you finally roll comfortably down to Lateindorf and back to Eibiswald.

Equipment
Mountainbike

The tour runs on asphalt, gravel and easy hiking trails. You will need a bike suitable for mountain biking (gravel bike or mountain bike).

Check your bike after each tour for air pressure, spoke tension and brake pads.

A helmet is a must for every bike tour.

Think in advance about what equipment you need to take with you: warm clothing, rain and wind protection, a repair kit and first aid kit should be in your rucksack, as well as a charged mobile phone.

Safety instructions
Always drive at a controlled speed and at half visibility, especially on bends, as obstacles can be expected at any time (e.g. road damage, stones, branches, temporarily stored wood, grazing livestock, grazing grids, barriers, tractor-forestry machines, authorised persons' vehicles). Be considerate of other people, walkers and pedestrians. Only overtake at walking pace! Be aware of the difficulty of the route, accurately assess your experience and ability as a biker! Protect your head with a helmet and check your equipment (brakes, bell, lights) before every bike tour!Keep to barriers and please accept that some paths are primarily used for agricultural and forestry purposes! Be considerate of nature and wildlife, do not leave the marked route, refrain from riding off the open paths and finish your bike tour before dusk. Please do not leave any litter behind.

Attention: No liability! (*)

*) Mountain biking is a risky sport! The landowners, the Eibiswald cycling club, tourism association and municipalities accept no liability!

Some tours (see description) are "pure nature", the forest paths lead over roots, stones, streams, are partly washed out and are not maintained. Pushing and carrying passages are necessary depending on ability. We recommend private accident insurance or membership of the Alpine Club. Have fun!
