The construction of Seefeld's landmark, the Seekirchl, also known as the Heiligkreuzkirche, was begun by Archduke Leopold V in 1629 and completed in 1666.
At that time the Seekirchl stood in the middle of the Kreuzsee, which was created by Duke Sigmund the Rich in Coins in the 15th century and drained in 1808. The church is one of the rare octagonal Baroque central buildings with a dome in Tyrol. It was built by the famous Innsbruck court architect Christoph Gumpp, the late Gothic cross on the main altar and the frescoes testify to the importance of the 2nd pilgrimage church in Seefeld in earlier centuries.
The Seekirchl is open from May 1 - October 31.
