- Description

Between Wenningstedt and Kampen is the Red Cliff, which rises up to 30 metres above the beach and lives up to its name, especially in the evening light. This hike takes you from Wenningstedt above the cliff to Kampen, where you have a marvellous view over Sylt's west beach at all times. Once you arrive in Kampen, the view from the Uwe Düne (Sylt's highest point at 52 metres) is even better. In good weather, you can see as far as the northern and eastern tip of Sylt and make out the other island villages from the lighthouses and church towers. In Kampen, you pass the iconic storm cap and the Kampen lighthouse and head to the beach, as the return journey to Wenningstedt is completed below the Red Cliff on the flood fringe. From this perspective, the height and red colour of the cliff really come into their own.
- Directions
-
We start at the car park on Berthin-Bleeg-Straße and climb the steps to the beach crossing. At the spa map house, we turn right onto the wooden path, which leads over several steps through the dunes. Halfway northwards, the wooden path ends and we continue walking on sand above the cliff. We follow the path on the cliff to the end and turn right onto the wooden steps. This leads us directly to the Uwe dune, which we climb. We then continue northwards and follow the Rote Kliff hiking trail to the storm cap. There we change to the beach and turn southwards again. We walk along the beach until we reach the wide beach steps (with slide) on the Wenningstedt promenade. From here we walk past the house on the cliff, along the dune road back to the starting point.
