Description

You start quite comfortable: The cable cars take you up to the Panoramaplateau. You can take a break on the Laireiteralm - the children love the go-karts, the adults enjoy the view. Don't forget: Before you start with the cable cars you have to get your "Gamsjaga-Pass", which is necessary for your "Gamsjaga-Diploma".

You start at the "Gamsjaga-Platzl", which is a seat with 2 telescopes. 1 names all the mountains in the surroundings, 1 is for wildlife watching. If you are lucky you may see a deer or even a chamois. Here you find your first stamp for your "Gamsjaga-Diploma".

You hike downwards on some switchbacks. On a small plateau you have a fantastic view to the Aigenalmen and to Hüttschlag. You hike down on a romantic trail to the Aigenalmen. On a small glade you will find your second stamp for your "Gamsjaga-Diploma".

Finally you reach the Mandl-Heimalm (closed). The "Gamssteig" ends here and you hike up to the Aigenalmen - the Aigenalm-Paulhütte and the Aigenalm-Mandlhütte. On both you get self-made delicacies.

Tip: The third stamp for your "Gamsjaga-Diploma" is at the Aigenalm-Mandlhütte.

Then you hike down to the Mandldörfl and further to Grossarl. A visit in the Aigenalmkapelle (chapel) is definitely recommended.

Congratulation! You have passed the "Gamsjaga-Diploma"! This does not entitle you to hunt chamois, but it is your off-road hiking diploma. You just go with your "Gamsjaga-Pass" with the 3 stamps to the ticket office of the cable cars and you get your certificate.

Directions

You go up by the cable car (Panoramabahn Großarltal) to the Panoramaplateau, 1.840 m (about 1/4 h). Then you hike along the "Gamssteig" (nr. 36) to the Mandl-Heimalm, 1.236 m (closed). Further you hike on the way nr. 41 to the Aigenalm-Paulhütte, 1.280 m (about 1 3/4 h from the mountain station) and further to the Aigenalm-Mandlhütte, 1.342 m (about 10 min.).
