For a walk as long or as short as you want this promenade is especially suitable. The promenades along the river Salzach are flat; the entire length is 25 km. You can either walk towards Schwarzach or towards Bischofshofen.
Salzach river has its source near Krimml in Oberpinzgau and flows through Pinzgau, Pongau, Tennengau, through the city of Salzburg, the province of Upper Austria and along the Austrian/German border to Passau where it empties into the Danube. In summer the popular Tauernradweg Cycle Path runs also follows the shores of the Salzach from Krimml to Passau. The part of this cycle path runs through St. Johann is called “Sagenhafter Tauernradweg”.
There are plenty of inns and restaurants along the way catering to the hungry and thirsty walker. A good option is Hotel Brückenwirt, but there are many other nice ones.
