Abtenau: First-round (20 points)

Beautiful mountain tour, for which a certain basic level of fitness is definitely required.

In addition, you can also climb the surrounding mountain peaks.

From the hikers' car park at the Karalm (3 points), first take the trail towards the Laufener hut. Then head moderately steeply uphill through the high forest, past the "Holzplatz" (wood place) and through steep terrain to the "Wandalm" (spring). Now leave the Laufener hiking trail and hike left up to the First. This ascent is strenuous, requires caution in some places, but leads through impressive mountain landscapes (special care is required here on the descent).From the First (1820 m, 6 pts.), continue towards the Gsengalm. The trail leads just below the Schallwand to the "Schicken", then continues via the "Zapfensteig" to the "Gsengalm" (1447 m, 8 pts.). From the Gsengalm, continue on the trail to the Karriedel and down to the mountain station of the Kakogelbahn, where the Karkogel hut (1120 m) invites you to take a rest. If the summer toboggan run is still in operation, you should not miss the opportunity to whiz down into the valley on the toboggan run. Otherwise, the hiking trail leads left through the forest down to the Karalm, the starting point of the hike.

From Abtenau in the direction of Russbach. Turn right 400 m after the town sign and park at the Karkogel valley station.  The Karalm car park is approx. 3 km further on - turn right uphill at the valley station and follow the road to the end point.
