Description

We begin our stage on Mozartplatz square, in the heart of Salzburg’s beautiful Old City. The entire route of this stage is alongside the River Salzach. We come to the old Celtic city of Hallein, and can also enjoy the refreshing waters of Golling Waterfall and beautiful Bluntautal valley. After a short climb, we cycle past the Salzachöfen, the point where the Salzach slices impressively through the rocks of the Tennengebirge massif. Then we enter a narrow canyon leading to Hohenwerfen Castle, a picturesquely situated, medieval castle between the mountains of the Tennen- and Hagengebirge. Now the valley broadens and we reach Bischofshofen, the end of this first stage. Along the way are numerous natural monuments and sights, inviting us to pay them a visit and enjoy a well-earned refreshment break.

Public transportation
Salzburg enjoys good international rail connections from all directions:   from the west (Munich – Rosenheim), east (Vienna) and south (Villach).

From the main railway station in Salzburg, ride your bike in the direction of the River Salzach, continuing alongside it, upriver – either at Müllner Steg or Makartsteg bridge, cross the Salzach, and make your way alongside the Salzach directly to Mozartplatz square.

Parking
Leave your vehicle on one of the P+R car parks at the edge of the city (parking fees will apply). Beyond that, there are a total of around 1,100 Park + Ride parking spaces available at regional public-transit stops in the greater Salzburg City area (some free of charge). www.salzburg.info

Or park at the hotel where you will be spending your first night, perhaps on the outskirts of Salzburg. However, please make arrangements with the hotel in advance.
