- Description
-
The best starting point for the 37 km long tour around Germany's easternmost city is the Old Town Bridge of the European City Görlitz/Zgorzelec. During the tour through the historic old town, past original buildings in Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Wilhelminian and Art Nouveau styles, you can feel the splendour from bygone days everywhere. You can also start your tour at the Landeskrone. The cycle tour is marked with the number 13.
- Directions
-
Görlitz - Pfaffendorf - Markersdorf - Königshain - Schöpstal - Görlitz
The tours starts at the Old Town Bridge and takes you along the Neisse River to the city park. Cross the main street and follow Emmerichstraße to the Jakobstunnel. Behind the railway station follow the "Sächsische Städteroute" (Saxon city route) and the tram rails to the Landeskrone.
Pass the Görlitz local mountain, Landeskrone, and the village Pfaffendorf. The next destination is Markersdorf. It can be recommended to visit the Dorfmusem (village museum) here. Passing meadows and forests, the a little challenging route leads over the Königshain mountains to Königshain. The Granitabbaumuseum (granite quarrying museum) and the castle are worth seeing here. In addition to the lordly 18th-century baroque castle with its park, the "Steinstock", built in the 13th/14th century as a medieval living space, can still be visited today. The tour continues through Ebersbach/Schöpstal back to Görlitz along the "Kreisbahn" cycle path. There it is recommended to end the day in one of the nice cafés and restaurants.
