- Brief description
-
The Stelzhamer-Trail is an absolute highlight for families with chilldren. Apart from the lovingly designed "Gnome`s Forest", there are also many animals to discover, such as at Archehof (Arkfarm) Gruber and on a small detour to Starzhofer organic farm, where you can also enjoy some refreshments in the farm shop.

You leave town through Pfarrwald Forest, then along the agricultural road, past the 1000 Guilder-Pillar. You`ll hike along an idyllic forest trail and up the valley to "Stelzmaner-Spring", dedicated to dialect poet Franz Stelzhamer for his 60th birthday. From here, things get "fabulous", many lovingly designed "gnomes" and other creatures along the way stir not only children`s fantasy. After a stretch uphill you`ll get to "Archehof Gruber", and then you`ll reach the elevation and now head for Kempbachtal with a bounce in your step. Here you`ll come upon the agricultural road, which you follow all the way to Diminger-Farm and then turn right, and from here through a small forest back down into the valley again. A narrow, romantic steep path will take you to the forest prayer site, here you`ll cross the Kneipp Trail and hike uphill again, then a meadow path on the left will lead you into the forest, from here it`s downhill again all the way to Bründl by the Kneipp trail. You can return to the village via the bath houses.

This circular trail is THE family hiking trail in Bad Kreuzen. There are so many great things to discover for children, but with aa distance of almost 7 km it is more suited for older children. In order to also enjoy it with smaller children, I recommend hiking to the 2nd Gnome-Station, after about 1.5 km ( it is located below Gruber Archfarm) and then simply hike back along the same way again. In the near future there will also be a dedicated children`s circuit, which will start from the top and be some 3 km long. A small detour I would highly recommend along the circular trail: when you get to the elevation at Prinz farm, follow the detour arrow in direction of Starzhofer organic farm, the farm shop is a true "gem" and is open 7 days a week. Here you`ll get organic treats made right on the farm to eighter enjoy right away or take back home with you! My tip: keep an eye out for our "trees of life", there are 2 to discover on this circuit!
