Description
The water trail leads along the western bank of the pond cascade in the east of Clausthal-Zellerfeld. This consists of four large former mining ponds. On this exciting route, however, you will not only see the picturesque waters, but there are also numerous ditches and other water management structures near the educational hiking trail. Along the way is also the Dorotheer Rösche, an underground watercourse that can be visited together with the Caroliner Wetterschacht. Nowhere was the principle of keeping as much water as possible at the highest possible level more consistently implemented than at this site.

The important role that water plays for us humans and some interesting information can be read here.

Directions

After the steep descent from the dam of the Hirschler pond, the trail follows the Dorotheer Kehrradsgraben along the pond cascade, which almost seems to merge into a single body of water. In the immediate vicinity are also the two former mines "Caroline" and "Dorothea", which formed the core of the Burgstätt train. For this reason, many of the water transport facilities distributed throughout the Upper Harz converge in the catchment area of these once very productive ore mines. A large number of information boards explain the purpose of each of the facilities, which were built to transport and store water, as well as their complex interaction with each other.
