- Description
-
The hike from Hollenburg to Gedersdorf initially runs directly along the Danube. The special ambience created by the river during the first kilometres of the stage is, at best, surpassed by the floodplain landscape that follows. The wildly romantic route continues through the idyllic Au to the village of Tisza; then across fields and orchards to Brunn im Felde. Shortly afterwards, the stage destination in Gedersdorf is reached. Heurige invite you to enjoy regional delicacies here. The well-deserved snack tastes even better with a fantastic view of the wine terraces sloping down to the Danube.
- Directions
-
From the main square in Hollenburg, we continue our hike along the Sportplatzweg, under the subway towards the Danube cycle path. On this, we walk about 1.5 mile downstream to St. George's Bridge. Attention: there are many cyclists in this section! Alternatively, we could use the parallel gravel path next to the meadow.
We cross the bridge to get to the north side of the Danube. On the other side of the river, follow the cycle path upstream for about 1.4 miles before turning right through the floodplain and reaching the village of Tisza. We follow the Untere Hauptstraße until we reach the Stratzdorfer Straße, then walk along this road in a northerly direction and then turn right onto the Güterweg. We march through fields and orchards, under the subway, and past the gravel lakes until we reach Brunn im Felde and, shortly afterwards, Gedersdorf, where numerous wine taverns invite you to visit. The stage ends at the Gedersdorf Filialkirche.
