A trip across the cycle path is a journey through diverse landscapes. Accompanied by the rushing of the river, it starts off in Leobersdorf in the southern part of the Vienna Woods, passes over flat paths in the initial section then goes on to Hirtenberg, Berndorf and Pottenstein. If you choose to go further upriver, you will be cycling through the Alp-like landscapes of Weissenbach, Altenmarkt, Kaumberg and Hainfeld, until you reach St. Veit an der Gölsen. A the end, the route joins the Traisental-Radweg in Traisen. By the way, if you are travelling in this direction, and if you follow the Triesting first and then the Gölsen, you will be traversing a part of the old ‘Via Sacra’ that links Vienna to Mariazell. The crossing from the Triestingtal-Radweg to the Gölsental-Radweg passes the Gerichtsberg; this involves overcoming somewhat more than 200 metres in altitude. ‘Sports-related enjoyment, cultural discoveries, cool refreshments’ - Ambitious sportsmen will find challenging sections and even mountain bike stretches, especially in the area around Altenmarkt. When you’re on the move, you will be able to explore cultural gems like the Araburg castle ruins or the Basilica Klein-Mariazell. Cool refreshments are offered by the many idyllic sites that are located along the banks of the Triesting and the Gölsen, and which invite guests to take a break.
Characteristic: Downriver (from Kaumberg to Leobersdorf) - A family-friendly day trip. Here’s a tip for a multi-day trip: if you follow the Triesting and the Gölsen in that order, you will be travelling along the old ‘Via Sacra’ that links Vienna to Mariazell. This involves overcoming somewhat more than 200 metres in altitude.
