- Description
-
Located on a narrow promontory between the sea and the bodden - of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula - Ahrenshoop is equally attractive for nature and art lovers. Ahrenshoop has been a home of art for over 125 years.
In celebration of the 125-year anniversary of the artists colony the art trail was inaugerated in 2017. The circular hike through the artist village with its thatched houses leads to ten stations with atmospheric paintings by well-known artists. Along the way, the works of art immerse the viewer in the Ahrenshooper cultural history and relive how the artists perceived the once dreamy fishing village. On the individual display boards, the hiker learns a lot of interesting facts about the painter and his work. On the side trip to the cliffs, hikers follow the traces of the painters and discover the places of their inspiration.

The Baltic Seaside resort of Ahrenshoop has a very special light in every season: bluish in spring, golden yellow in summer and glowing red in autumn. The sun, wind and vegetation are always different and give Ahrenshoop an inimitable artistic shine. When the painter Paul Müller-Kaempff saw Ahrenshoop for the first time and discovered it for sight more than 100 years ago, he was deeply impressed by the unspoilt beauty of nature between the sea and the bodden. Nobody knew this "end of the world" at that time, it was considered a white spot on the map. And this is precisely what magically attracted artists such as Louis Douzette, Erich Heckel, Alexej von Jawlensky, Marianne von Werefkin, Georg Ludwig, César Klein and Dora Koch-Stetter. Unaffected by world wars, they were able to create, paint, write, work and find inspiration in Ahrenshoop.
