From Rostock to Schwaan

You start in the Hanseatic and University City of Rostock and drive either via Biestow or alternatively via Papendorf to Pölchow. You are now on the cycle route Berlin-Copenhagen. The bike path leads you, wrapped in the increasingly clear Endmoränenlandschaft, via Benitz to Schwaan. In Schwaan you walk in the footsteps of the Mecklenburg artists' colony. The art museum shows permanent and special exhibitions. At the back of the museum, contemporary artists present the lively art world of Mecklenburg with their sculptural works. The old center of the city with its houses in the classicist style is bounded by the courses of the rivers Warnow and Beke.

Start the tour at the Rostock main station. Via the Erich-Schlesinger Straße you reach the Schwaaner Landstraße. To leave the Hanseatic city, follow the street southward. If you have left Rostock, you are on the Berlin-Copenhagen-Fernradweg, just before Niendorf. At the height of Niendorf the way describes a small dangling. Via Pölchow, Wahrstorf, Huckstorf you reach Benitz. In Benitz you drive straight on to the Schwaaner country road. This will leave the main road. It is less than 4 km to Schwaan. To do this, turn left from Rostocker Straße onto Fritz-Reuter-Straße. At about 400 m you will find the Old Watermill and the Art Museum on the left. To return to Rostock, take the almost same route you came on. Via Benitz, Huckstorf and Wahrstorf you return to Pölchow. Instead of driving here via Niendorf back to Rostock, you can alternatively turn right in Pölchow on the Rostocker Straße towards Papendorf. Follow the village street until you turn left after the left turn on Kirchenkamp. Cycle along the path, past the Sildemower See to Sildemow. Turn right onto Seestraße. Turn left past the lake and turn left again at Am Schlosspark and cycle past the Sildemower Festwiese, heading north. Follow the way to the Hanseatic city of Rostock. To your left are the sidings of Rostock Central Station. Stay on Dalwitzhofer Weg until it leads to Blücherstraße. Here you turn left and drive along the street. After the tracks, turn left onto Erich-Schlesinger Straße and thereby return to the south side of Rostock main station.
