Description

The enchanting cycle route continues along winding paths to the Siggen estate for a short coffee stop. Siggen is one of the oldest estates in Ostholstein, with a history dating back to the Middle Ages. The manor house has been remodelled several times and the farm buildings were rebuilt in 1934 after a fire. Alfred Toepfer acquired the estate with its extensive farmland in 1932 and the Siggen manor house has been used for foundation activities since 1970.

The tour leads back southwards, via Fargemiel a short distance along the B501 to the entrance to Grube. Passing St Jürgen's Church, one of the oldest churches in Schleswig-Holstein and mentioned in documents as early as 1232, the route leads to the Gruber Seekoog. With a bit of luck, you may see sea eagles circling or catch a glimpse of the kingfisher that lives here. The history of Gruber comes to life on the viewing platform at Paasch-Eyler-Platz with its fascinating view over the former Gruber See. The route continues via Altrathjensdorf and Morest to Poggenpohl and from there to Cismarfelde. Here you will not only find Ostholstein's first piece of country art, Eike Steensen from the Steensen farm offers cheese and tomatoes from his own farm. The route continues through the artists' village of Cismar, past the House of Nature. Very special apple varieties await cyclists at the Grimm apple farm. Up to 18 different apple varieties grow on the Bioland-certified farm, which is now in its third generation of fruit growing. The route leads back to Gruberdieken via Wintersberg and Guttau to the farm shop "Dat achtere Rahland". Various farm and handmade products are available to try or you can be tempted by waffles with homemade plum jam before the tour ends shortly afterwards in Grube at the village museum.
