Brief description

In addition to classic hiking routes, the island of Rügen has a lot more to offer. For example, the St. Birgitta's Way leads from Sassnitz via Stralsund to Lower Saxony. Our Inhabitant Heike Seelenbinder recommends the section from Sassnitz to Bergen.

Description

St. Birgitta of Sweden was a patron saint. Together with her husband, she set out on a pilgrimage from Sweden to Santiago de Compostella, crossing Rügen. Today's Way of St. James shows the path that St. Birgitta followed. The pilgrimage route is marked with the white Birgitta cross on the scallop shell or yellow arrows. The path leads us from Sassnitz past churches and former monasteries to Bergen.
