Starting at the summit station, the tour starts deceptively comfortably. The first costal is already waiting in the summit house. After the first course has been served, descend to the Neugarten Almseehütte (path no. 177) and turn right at the level of the Himmelsspirale (path no. 3). Right at the beginning you cross the Gerlitzen summit road and follow the path for the ski slope area, always descending in the direction of Neugarten. The path leaves the piste at the distinctive wooden hut (shelter for cows) and leads through the spruce forest and further on past the Neugarten reservoir with attached water adventure world to the Neugarten Almseehütte and the second costal on the tour.
After this culinary stop, you start again slightly uphill in the direction of Stifterboden (path no. 5). The worst is already done here, because the descent to the Kammerhütte is done quickly. The Kammerhütte is not part of the Kostale Tour, but digestion can also be promoted here with clear alpine water.
Without significant differences in altitude, it goes to the last costal in the Pöllinger Hütte (path no. 1762). You can exchange your culinary expertise on the sun-drenched terrace before you take the path (path no. 176) through the Pöllingersiedlung via the Waldtratte to the mountain station of the Kanzelbahn.
You don't know what you should imagine by a "Kostale"? A taste of homemade dishes is referred to as "Kostale". So let yourself be surprised!
- Directions
-
From the gondola middle station you take path number 33 past the Hotel Alpenrose. From there you follow path number 52 further to the Pöllinger Hut. Here is where you can treat yourself to your first break and of course your first "Costal."
Costal number one is delicious Carinthian Cheese Noodles, which will help power you through the next 45-60 minute phase of the journey to the Neugarten-Almsee Hut on path number 5. At Almsee the main course will be an "Almochen Steak." With your mouth already watering at the thought of your third "Costal," a strudel specialty, you begin the the third phase of the tour: a 45 minute hike to the Gerlitzen summit on path number 3. For the return journey, most casual hikers decide to take the chairlift back to the gondola middle station.
