- Description

The varied course of the Forstsee loop conveys all the impressions of the beautiful surroundings. From the starting point at the Velden boat landing stage, the trail leads through the town to the Franzosenkirche church and then slightly uphill through the Römerschlucht gorge to the Römerbrücke bridge. Then turn left to the idyllically situated and unspoilt Forstsee lake (circular route). In the immediate vicinity is Carinthia's first storage power station, which has been a listed building since 1998 and is open to the public throughout the summer as an exhibition power station. Once you have completed the circular trail around the Forstsee, you can walk to the Franzosenkirche church and back through the village to the start.
The Lake Forstsee is a popular nudist bathing place in the summer months!

From the Velden boat landing stage, walk through the town to the Franzosenkirche church. From the Franzosenkirche, take trail number 1 through the Roman Gorge. The ascent goes along a stream to the Roman bridge. There you turn right to the idyllically situated Forstsee. Before you get to the Forstsee, you go to the lookout point, where you can enjoy a magnificent view over Velden, Lake Wörthersee and the Karawanken. The circular walk around the Forstsee always goes along the shore and you will notice that it is not a natural lake. Together with the Forstsee show power station (still operational for peak times), the Forstsee forms Austria's oldest pumped-storage power station (built 1923 -1925). The way back follows the path with the number 1 to the Franzosenkirche and through the village back to the starting point.
If you don't want to walk through the village, you can start at the Franzosenkirche. Parking spaces are available. The tour then has approx. 7 kilometres and approx. 200 metres in altitude.
