Mittagskogel - Touring Ski

This challenging tour starts either with a forest road or a steeper forest path to the Bertahütte and then you have to take the main tour to the summit of the Mittagskogel.

Sometimes, depending on the snow situation, the forest road to the Bertahütte is accessible in also in winter months. Therefore, the described tour starts a little below the parking area on that road. Follow the forest road until you reach the barrier. From there you can either take the forest road or the steeper forest path (path no. 680) to get up to the Bertahütte. From here, follow the signposted ascent (path no. 680). At the beginning you have to cross some smaller gorges until you get to the east flank of the "Hühnekogel". From there follow numerous serpentines upwards to the 2,070 m high saddle. To the north-west, you can reach the Mittagskogel. For the descent take the same way back.

Coming from Villach or from the Rosental Valley take the B85 (Rosentalstraße) to Unteraichwald and then turn southwards at the Hotel Mittagskogel into the Kopeiner Straße. At the junction in Kopein, leave the paved road and turn right towards Bertahütte.
