Description

The starting point for the three sections of this circular trail is at Rudniško jezero in Kočevje. The lake was created when mines underneath colapsed and is now a popular afternoon destination for locals. Only a few steps away from the blue surface you can visit the Željna Caves, where people have been searching for shelter already over 20,000 years ago. You can also visit the Forest Reserve Pugled-Žiben and from there, you can enjoy the silence all the way to the Roška saw, whose remains are evidence of booming economic activity.

The only “disturbance” of the region are the remnants of the Kočevarske villages, whose inhabitants have long sought a new living space. As the opposite of these remnants, the Rajhenav virgin forest and the Queen of Rog, insist on the same place for centuries as the forest reserve of Prelesnikova koliševka, hiding the cold north flora. Kočevje is famous for its brown bear population, so there is a big chance you will meet or see them.
