- Description

To start off the day, we will climb the Altenberg mountain which lies high above the landscape (299 meters). After a short stop at the benches on the top, hikers will walk through the romantic Salzbödetal at the edge of the Krofdorf forest. Rilke described the Salzbödetal as a particularly attractive landscape as early as 1905.
- Directions
-
From Lollar railway station, follow the yellow signs for the Lahnwanderweg trail access route. The bridge offers a beautiful view of the Lahn. Follow the access route past Ruttershausen village up to Wehrholz. Here you can have a look at the bird shelter with its many different bird houses. The trail will now climb up steadily to the Altenberg with an altitude of 299 m. At the top there is a wonderful place to rest and unwind.
From the Altenberg hill the hike leads down steeply to the village of Salzböden. The Schönemühle at the end of the village is the ideal place for a coffee break. The art of its master pâtissier is well known for miles around. Afterwards hikers will walk through the meadows along the edge of the forest, through the idyllic Salzbödetal. The Schmelzmühle will be on your left. Here you can have a look at an old document (a license for using the mill) as well as the big mill wheel.
The mill has been owned by the family since 1844. It is not only locals who appreciate the bread menu with farmer's breakfast, well-ripened hand cheese and a hearty homemade sausage. Afterwards our tour continues with a rather easy ascent through the forest. Don’t miss the turn-off towards Fronhausen at the top! Now following the yellow signs of the access route, the trail descends to today's stage destination. Fronhausen will welcome its visitors with its rustic half-timbered houses and the choir tower church from the 12th century.
