- Description

There are several torrents flowing down the steep ravines beneath Mt. Krn. Two of them created two wonderful waterfalls – Gregorčič Waterfall and Brinta Waterfall. You can access these waterfalls from the village of Selce which you can get to by turning uphill from the Kamno – Vrsno road. There is a marked trail leading from the village towards the east across the meadow into the forest. The trail is quite level until it reaches the forest where it steeply descends into the ravine of the Malenšček Stream. At the marked junction in the vicinity of the grave of a Russian soldier you have to turn to the left along the trail leading below the Brinta Waterfall (104 m). In sunny weather and at just the right time (around noon) the waterfall usually awards you with a wonderful rainbow. Return to the junction and continue to the left towards the Gregorčič Waterfall (88 m) created by the Volarja Stream. Cross the scree slope and hike through the forest to the first key section which requires a lot of skills. You have to descend approximately 3 metres along a free-hanging rope and, after a while, climb steeply uphill along a wire rope. If you would like to reach the pool under the waterfall you have to climb over slippery rocks, which is why we recommend this section only to experienced mountaineers. You return along the trail you came from.
- Directions
-
Park your vehicle in the village of Selce. Pass the house with the signs for both waterfalls and cross the meadow. The trail through the forest is initially level but later narrows and steeply descends to the riverbed of the Malenšček torrent. When you reach the grave of a Russian soldier, turn uphill to the right towards the Brinta Waterfall. If you would like to reach the Gregorčič Waterfall you have to return to the junction, pass the grave of a Russian soldier and continue along the left trail to the two strips of rock. You will descend down the first one along a rope and ascend up the other one along a wire rope. Continue to the slope beneath the pool of the waterfall. If you would like to come closer to the pool you have to be quite skilful and careful when climbing over rocky obstacles.

- Equipment
-
Quality high hiking footwear with well-profiled soles. Hikers who like to use trekking poles will find such equipment very useful.
- Safety instructions
-
After the level trail reaches the forest it descends quite steeply into the ravine of the Malenšček Stream. In wet weather conditions or after rainfall there is a danger of slipping.
If you continue towards the Gregorčič Waterfall you will hike along a very demanding terrain – descent along the rope across a strip of rock and along the wire rope to the transverse section to the waterfall. The ascent to the pool across the usually slippery rocks is also demanding.
- Tips
-
We recommend the visit of the waterfalls, especially the Gregorčič Waterfall, only to hikers experienced in hiking along steep and rocky trails which require the use of wire ropes.
- Additional information
-
We recommend hikers inexperienced in hiking on demanding terrain to visit the Gregorčič Waterfall along the access trail (see photo No. 9).
