- Description
-
The trail from Srednja vas to Zajamniki is not suitable for everyone, because the initial part from Srednja vas to the Na Šeh pasture is quite steep. You will notice many abandoned farm facilities along the way. Some cottages have been restored and changed to holiday houses. You can admire the views of the Bohinj Valley and the surrounding mountains all the way. The cottages on Zajamniki pasture stand on grazing meadows. The pasture’s image is quite unique and shows the originality of Slovenian folk building architecture. The Na Šeh pasture and Javornica are meadow pastures, meaning that farmers cut grass in summer and cattle graze in autumn. Fields were also kept on the meadowland. Zajamniki is a high alpine pasture where cattle were grazed less than two months per year. From Javornica descend to Spodnje Podjelje and Jereka and continue through Češnjica to the trailhead in Srednja vas.
- Directions
-
Start at the bus station in Srednja vas and walk to the west. In a sharp turn of the main road, turn right past the Pri Hrvatu Inn. Follow the Ribnica stream and walk along the path to the Na Šeh pasture (directly to the Ribnica Waterfall). You will reach the pasture after one-hour steep hike uphill. Cross the meadow and continue along the forest path to the roadside shrine and bench. The signpost directs you east, towards Zajamniki. Pass various buildings and ascend across the meadows to reach the magnificent Bohinj alpine pasture of Zajamniki. It is quite recognisable due to its panoramic location on the sunny side of the Pokljuka plateau. The main building is the cheese dairy. The pasture offers a magnificent view of the Triglav mountains, the Lower Bohinj mountains and a part of Lake Bohinj. Make a circle around the pasture. Descend to the pasture of Javornica. This offers a view of the Kamnik and Savinja Alps as well as the wide Jelovica plateau. When you arrive at Spodnje Podjelje, continue along the road to Jereka. Stop at Orlov razglednik (panoramic point) and admire the valley of Bohinj once again. Continue from Jereka to Češnjica along the old road, walk through the village along the narrow main road, at the end of the village turn onto the cycling route that takes you past the Senožeta ski centre back to the start.
