Description

The Adriatic Sea can be seen to the south of the Lower Bohinj Mountains whilst Triglav can be seen to the north. Triglav is the tallest mountain in Slovenia, standing out from the other peaks in the Julian Alps. The trail reaches the Triglav lakes valley in later stages. The Via Alpina does not go to Triglav, but you can make a detour that will take you a day.

In the glacial valley below lies Lake Bohinj, the biggest natural lake in Slovenia. The lake is 4,100 m long, 1,200 m wide and 45 m deep. Water flows into the lake mainly from the Savica waterfall to the west.

The trail leads across the slopes before reaching the Komna plateau. The trails here are a bit less visited, so you might find some navigation issues in Globoko pass. From here on it is just a gradual descend towards the Komna hut, which is a very popular day destination.

Directions

From the top station of the cable car, follow the marked trail up to the top of the ski resort along Orlov edge (1800m) and continue to the junction under Šija. 1h

Walk across the grassy slope of Šija to its edge and climb down to the Vratca pass (1,725 m). 15 minutes. From the pass, make the steep descent down the short, slightly exposed rocky slope to the gap and the path leading to the Ski Hotel. Now climb the steep eastern ridge of Vogel. When the path levels out, you will be at the crossroads below Vogel (1,922 m). 1h.

From here, Via Alpina avoids the peak (!) and goes west to the Globoko pass, where the Slovene balcony trail "No. 1" branches off towards the peak. You will reach the pass in 15 minutes if you follow the path descending from the ridge to the Bohinj side across the slope.

Several paths meet on the Globoko pass. Choose the middle path, which is almost completely level and runs below the Rušnati vrh peak to Konjsko sedlo pass (1,782 m). 30 minutes. Now turn north and leave the path on the ridge behind. Walk across the scree slope of Bohinjski Migovec to an abandoned pasture, then cross it to reach the ridge, from where you will descend down to the valley. There follows a short climb up the trough to a wide pass and you will find yourself at the edge of the Komna plateau. Then climb down the gently sloping valley through thick Karstic overgrowth to reach Dom na Komni (1,520 m). 2h.

This is a very long stage, taking 5h.
