- Description
-
Ribenska gora is the southernmost solitary hill among the hills surrounding the Lake Bled basin. With its steep slope, which rises from the flooded terrace of the Sava Bohinjka river all the way up to the top ridge, it delineates the plain on the south-eastern side of Bled, which consists of fields and meadows. As a narrow and steep ridge, Ribenska gora runs in parallel to the Sava Bohinjka river, and on the eastern side under the mountain lies a settlement, once the village of Ribno, after which the mountain got its name.
Ribenska gora provides shelter to the popular “Pod goro” sports and recreational area. A circular path leads from the old Oddih hotel near the Hotel Ribno around Ribenska gora, and we can ascend to the top ridge and on the top itself following a trail across the southern slopes or on a steep, forest-covered eastern ridge. Ribenska gora is 587 m high and offers incredible views on all sides. The Julian Alps with Mount Triglav, Castle Bled, the Karavanke mountain range and the Jelovica plateau above the Sava Bohinjka river are just a stone's throw away. There is not much room at the top, but there is a viewpoint secured with a fence. The paths leading to Ribenska gora are marked with the characteristic Bled signposts for hiking trails.

LAKESIDE PROMENADE – DINDOL – RIBNO – HOTEL RIBNO – RIBENSKA GORA – EVENT VENUE UNDER THE MOUNTAIN – RIBNO - SELO - MLINO - LAKESIDE PROMENADE
From the Lakeside promenade we follow the Cesta svobode road and reach the Bled Shopping Centre under the Park Hotel. From there, we head south passing the Kompas hotel and continue toward the Cankarjeva cesta road to part of a place called Dindol. At the chapel (signpost) we turn left and continue straight ahead on the road toward Ribno. At the beginning of the settlement we keep to the right and on the main road passing the fire station we arrive to the Hotel Ribno and the glamping area. The signpost on the right edge of the hotel directs us to a trail on the right toward a viewpoint and further on a trail or wide forest path almost straight ahead to an approach path to the top on the southern side of Ribenska gora. The signpost takes us to a narrow trail ascending steeply uphill, zig-zagging among the shrubbery all the way to the approach to the top ridge. A bench awaits us right under the ridge. From here, there are just a few minutes left to reach the top. We turn left or toward the west. The exposed ridge, which is in some parts secured with a fence made of wire ropes, takes us to a rocky top where there is not much room. The viewpoint has a fence and a marking indicating the top of the Ribenska gora mountain. We descend for a few minutes back on the same path, and at the junction (signpost), where we approached through the southern slopes, we continue straight ahead along the ridge and even ascend for a few metres in altitude to a viewpoint. From there, the trail disappears in a steep forest, until we reach a bench and a signpost at the edge of the “Pod goro” event venue. The path leading back to the centre of Bled can run along the approach direction through Dindol or directly on the Ribenska cesta road. A slightly longer, but picturesque is the return trail going through the village of Selo toward Mlino by Lake Bled and from there on to the Lakeside promenade.
