Juliana SkiTour 4 - Vogel (1922 m), from Gorenjska to Primorska

Take the gondola to the upper station on Rjava skala (1535 m). Here you have a magnificent and open view of Lake Bohinj and the surrounding peaks.

Descend immediately in front of the hotel, at the log cabins, to the right down the ski slope which takes you to the true starting point - to planina Zadnji Vogel (1413 m). After the buildings, ski a few meters lower to the bottom of the valley, which ascends towards the ridge.

Follow the valley only to the first terrace above a longer plain. Across the steeper slope  on the right, find a passage to the neighboring valley. The steep slopes at the end of this neighboring valley are already the slopes of Vogel mountain. From here avoid the valley that opens up completely in front, on the right side. Instead look for passages to the rounded back (left side) which you are able to follow below the ridge. Continue towards the ridge line on the horizon. You will most likely have to finish the last steep ascent to the ridge with skis on your shoulders.

You reach the ridge in the area of ​​the saddle between Vogel and the neighboring mountian, Vrh Krnic. From the top of Vrh Krnic ski down to the obvious small couloir, which is enclosed on three sides by Vrh Krnic, Vogel and Žabiški kuk. From the end of the couloir, choose the best slope that takes you to planina Razor. The most suitable and well visible passage from the end of the couloir leads you through the beech trees on the right.

Ski across the mountain pasture all the way to its lowest point (1200 m). If the snow conditions allow, ski down the path to Tolminske Ravne (913 m). If there is not enough snow, descend on foot.

 

The tour can also be done in the opposite direction. The usual winter access to planina Razor passes along the well-travelled path from Tolminske Ravne. From the pasture continue straight up. Before the slopes start to climb steeper, look for a passage through the beech trees on the right side. Soon you are out on the clear again, the path leads towards the unmissable hollow below Vogel and Žabijski Kuk. From the hollow find the most suitable passage to the ridge between the two peaks and  ascend to the top of Vogel. Carefully slide to the saddle between Vogel and the neighboring Vrh Krnice, or even better – descent on foot. From the top and from the saddle you can already see the entire descent path - planina Zadnji Vogel, which is the goal, situated behind the ski resort. If the conditions are favorable, ski straight down the steep slope at the passage of the top of Vogel. A safer option is to follow the distinctive ridge along the left edge of the valley below the summit.At the end of the valley find a passage on the right to the next valley, which leads you to planina Zadnji Vogel. Ski further in the valley on the ski slope through Žagarjev graben.
