Via Francigena: Lausanne - Vevey

This section leads from Lausanne, the capital of the canton of «Vaud», to Vevey, along the lake of Geneva. Today, we use trails along the shores of the lake, but also through vineyards of the Lavaux area, known for delicious wine. No surprise we will recognize village names we may have seen on labels of wine bottles.
Following Epesses, the trail is marked as «Alpenpanorama-Weg», which needs no translation once we enjoy the view on Swiss and French alps. Later on, we will also see signposts marked «Via Francigena». At our todays destination, Vevey, we will find a statue of Charlie Chaplin, an artist of the early years of movies. The «museum for nutrition» has been sponsored by the global Nestlé company, headquartered in Vevey.

The «Via Francigena» is one of the 3 main christian pilgrimage trails of the Middle Ages, the main axis leading from Canterbury to Rome. This documentation currently covers the stretch from Pontarlier close to the F/CH border across Lausanne to Rome.
Between Jougne and Lausanne, Orbe is the only larger agglomeration, that's why we have split the Jougne-Lausanne stretch in Orbe. However, both in Orbe an Lausanne, accomodations at modest prices are hard to find. We therefore recommend to focus for accomodations on Romainmôtier, then on one of the villages bertween Orbe and Lausanne, and finally on Vidy short behind Lausanne.
