Brief description

Young viticulture

.

It was only with the decline of livestock farming after the Second World War that large-scale viticulture began in the Seewinkel in the 1960s. Many meadows and pastures disappeared. The vineyards and individual trees have brought new structural elements to the once open, wide grasslands. The warm climate and the humid winds from Lake Neusiedl make especially white and sweet wines thrive here.

Description

Walnut trees have been planted in Seewinkel since the Roman times. Traditionally planted by farmers as an additional source of income to accompany wine, they can still be found today in many vineyards and along roads.

The Syrian Woodpecker often inhabits habitats close to humans. It can be found both in settlements and in cultivated landscapes with a sufficient supply of high trees.

In addition to animal food, it often eats fruit or nuts.

The blooded woodpecker often lives in the vicinity of humans.

In addition to the Bloodwing and the Tree Sparrow, the smallest of the finches, the European Serin, also breeds in the vineyards. The bright yellow little goldfinches like to sing their squeaky, tinkling song from the top of trees or in flight.

The little goldfinch is the smallest of the finches.

With its blue flowers, the highly aromatic viper's bugloss, which is often found along roadsides or roadside verges, can be spotted from a distance. When touching the stem, you can feel the plant's stinging bristly hairs.

In open cultivation, the plant is often found on roadsides or roadside verges.

In the open cultivated landscape, a small bird of prey can often be seen „standing“ high in the air under violent wing flaps. This so-called „Rütteln“ is used by the kestrel to catch mäuse, which it then captures in a flash in a swoop.
