- Description

This tour is perfect for beginners, as it starts by riding uphill via the Eckbauer cable car. At the top of the mountain, you will have a perfect view of all the sides of these Alpine mountains. The tour to Elmauer Alm (Alpine hut) leads over the ridge of Mount Eckbauer parallel to the Wetterstein Mountains. There are hardly any ascents or descents and the tour is well-signed. If you prefer to have a guide for this tour, please contact the Tourist Information, which regularly offers snowshoeing tours. You can borrow the gear needed for these tours from the Tourist Information.
For a more detailed description of the tour, please refer to "PDF Print" above.
- Directions

Behind the top terminal, take the left path to Wamberg and hike along the cleared paths of the longish plateau of Mount Eckbauer. The path slightly descends and then forks. Follow the path to "Elmauer Alm". Please put on your snowshoes now, if you have not already done so. The path is no longer cleared from now on but it is still well-signed. After about one hour, you will reach the small wooden hut with its cosy small restaurant and the nice terrace from which you have great views. For your return trip, walk a short distance on the same way until signs point you to the hiking trail to Wamberg. Follow these signs and start the descent to your starting point at the Olympia Skistadion via the small village Wamberg, which even has its own church. From Wamberg, walk alongside the well-cleared hiking path, which winds, sometimes steeply, down into the valley.
If you do not yet want to return from Elmauer Alm, you can walk further via Schloss Elmau (Elmau castle) or Schloss Kranzbach (Kranzbach castle) to Klais (5 km). On this tour, you will have great views over the rough Karwendel Mountains and the Mountains of the Wetterstein. (Stamina is required for this tour, it takes about 2 hrs). In Klais, you can go by Deutsche Bahn or board the local bus (RVO) back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The bus stop is at the station.
