Description

The circular tour starts in Mainburg, dominated by the mountain church of St Salvator. Those who make the ascent to the church will be rewarded by the view over the town. The route leads out of Mainburg and uphill, passing extensive hop fields, to Ebrantshausen, where the impressive pilgrimage church of SS. Peter and Paul, a Romanesque brick church with additions from later periods, is located.

The tour continues downhill through the next town, Gasseltshausen, with its unusual, massive church tower of the filial church of Our Lady, and carries on through the hop gardens as far as Aiglsbach, where you can take a break at the pub. The tall spire of St Leonhard’s church dominates the skyline of the little town.  Over the hills that are typical of Hallertau the route then continues to Berghausen and St Coloman’s church, before going on to Haunsbach.

The route takes you downhill towards Appersdorf where, in addition to the parish church of St Peter with its striking onion dome, the pilgrimage chapel of the Visitation, also called the Bründlkapelle, is worth a visit. Travelling through Elsendorf, with the tower of the baroque parish church of the Immaculate Conception rising over the town, you reach Ratzenhofen. Here you definitely need to call in at the beautiful beer garden for a welcome refreshment. The route then continues through the Abens Valley back to the starting point in Mainburg.
